Make a splash on Lake Tappan on Saturday, Aug. 11! This  family-friendly day of kayaking and canoeing on Lake Tappan supports Hackensack Riverkeeper’s clean water mission, brought to you in partnership with SUEZ Water.
The event,  running 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., supports Hackensack Riverkeeper’s mission to protect, preserve, and restore the Hackensack River.
Lake Tappan Paddle Day—LaTaPaDa—consists of four paddling sessions. Bring a boat or rent one from Riverkeeper’s fleet. You can choose a single-person kayak, a tandem (two-person) kayak, or canoe.
Space is limited; paddlers are encouraged to register online.
Fishing from kayaks is permitted, if registrant presents a valid fishing license.
The event is rain or shine. In the unlikely event that we have to cancel the paddle day, registrants will receive an email on Friday, Aug. 10 and a voucher, which can be used at either of our paddling centers or 2018–2019 special event.
All proceeds go directly to Hackensack Riverkeeper to help continue its mission to protect, preserve, and restore the Hackensack River Watershed. Your registration is a donation to the organization and is non-refundable.
Check-in begins 30 minutes  prior to the times given below for each session. Plan to arrive early to allow enough time to park, check-in, and be outfitted.
Paddle 1 runs 8:30 to 10:30; own boat runs 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.; Paddle 2 runs 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.; and Paddle 3 runs 1:30 to 3:30 p.m.
All boats must be off the water by 3:30 p.m.
All registrants get a free event T-shirt. Lunch is provided to all paddlers beginning at 11:30 a.m., courtesy of Inserra ShopRite.
The event cost: Riverkeeper kayak/canoe: $30 per paddler; own kayak/canoe: $30 per vessel.
• All canoes must have two adult paddlers.
• Children 5 and over may ride as a passenger in the center of a canoe, paddled by two adults.
• Children 8 and over can paddle in the front seat of a tandem kayak with a parent or guardian in the back.
• Children 12 and over may paddle a single kayak  if accompanied by an adult paddling in a separate vessel while on the water.
• Necessary equipment and life vests (personal flotation devices) will be provided for those using Hackensack Riverkeeper boats.
• All paddlers must wear PFD at all times.
• All boats must be washed before entering the reservoir, to prevent bio-invasive hitchhikers.
The lot is just north of the intersection of Little Mountain Road and Washington Avenue North. The coordinates are 41.013795, -73.992835.
