Varsity House is proud to announce the 11th Annual Michael LaViola Charity Strongman Challenge.

“This is going to be a great event, for an even better cause,” say organizers. “All of the proceeds from The Strongman Challenge will be donated to the Michael LaViola Foundation.

The event will be held June 15, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Varsity House Gym, 337 Blaisdell Road, Orangeburg, N.Y.

“To date we have raised nearly $150,000. The Michael LaViola Foundation raises money to research pediatric sarcomas, a rare form of cancer, and offers scholarships for graduating students of Northern Valley Regional High School at Old Tappan,” writes Varsity House Gym.

Celebrating the life of Michael F. LaViola, the foundation supports research into clinical sarcomas not normally funded by major foundations, and gives two scholarships annually to graduating Northern Valley Old Tappan High School students. The scholarships are awarded to a football player who best exemplifies Michael’s love of the game, and to a senior student who demonstrates a passion and ambition for life.

Spectators can attend the Strongman Challenge for $10. There will be prizes and give-a-ways for all contestants, a spectacular array of all-you-can-eat foods from local establishments, as well as a 50/50 raffle for all event spectators.

Contestants are welcome to register to compete in three divisions: junior varsity (eighth and ninth grade); high school; and college/adult. The three events are over-head log press, death medley (tire flip/farmers walk) and a max-distance sandbag carry. The is $25 for each contestant.
