HAWORTH, N.J.—A resident and award-winning producer for a highly-popular comedy-drama series on a female comedienne in the late 1950s was honored Dec. 11 by the Borough Council.

Dhana Gilbert is a five-year resident and a unit production manager on “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel,” an Amazon Prime Video series that won two Golden Globe awards and two Critics’ Choice Awards for Best Television Comedy Series and Best Actress in a Comedy Series, as well as an Emmy for 2018 Outstanding Comedy Series.

“[We] offer our congratulations and praise to Dhana Gilbert for achieving such high success in her profession for which she has earned the deepest respect and admiration of many,” reads the proclamation presented to Gilbert in front of family and friends. The series was created by Amy Sherman-Palladino (“Gilmore Girls”) and renewed for a third season even before the second season of episodes was released by Amazon Prime Video in December 2018.

“We typically honor residents who are recognized for significant events and for personal accomplishments,” said outgoing Mayor John Smart.

“There’s no secret about the success of ‘The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel’ and we know Dhana plays a big part of that,” added Smart.

The proclamation honoring Gilbert notes she is in the television and movie business, was unit production manager on “Boardwalk Empire”—an HBO TV series that won 20 Emmy Awards, and is recognized for her work on “Vinyl,” a 2016 HBO TV series, where she co-produced nine episodes working with Martin Scorsese and the Rolling Stones’ Mick Jagger.

Gilbert’s other production credits include work on “Fringe” on HBO in 2008 and the films “Cast Away” (2000) and “Road to Perdition” (2002), both starring Tom Hanks; “Mr. and Mrs. Smith” (2005) starring Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie; and “Superman Returns” (2006) starring Brandon Routh and Kevin Spacey.

Gilbert served as unit production manager on nine episodes of “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel,” including eight during the show’s first season.

The series chronicles the life of Miriam “Midge” Maisel, a Jewish housewife in 1950s New York City, married with two kids, whose life changes when she separates from her husband and pursues a path not taken by women in that period: stand-up comedy.

The show is filmed in New York City and in-studio in Brooklyn.

Gilbert is married to her husband, Matthew.

Multiple efforts to reach Gilbert for comment on her reward were not returned by press time. The second season of “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” debuted Dec. 5 on Amazon Prime Video, where viewers can watch all previous season one episodes.
