WESTWOOD, N.J.—A borough man, 79, was taken to The Valley Hospital as a precaution after his 2019 Subaru Legacy sedan crashed into a guardrail, transformer, and utility pole on Route 208 in Franklin Lakes after coming into contact with the back of a 2001 Ford Econoline, police said Nov. 5.
The driver said he was headed north shortly before 11 a.m. and tried to change lanes to clear the way for a tailgater when he clipped the van and wiped out.
Police said witnesses corroborated this account and noted it was fortunate that neither of the two occupants of the van, both from Haledon—the driver is 75—were injured.
Lanes were closed while crews cleared the wreckage and repaired electrical equipment. The Subaru had to be towed from the scene, police said.
