ENGLEWOOD, N.J.—On March 17, officers were dispatched to Holy Name Hospital on a reported assault. Once at the hospital, officers spoke to a 24-year-old male victim and were able to determine that he was assaulted by a lone assailant as he walked east on West Forest Avenue, towards Teaneck.

The victim, who is a resident of Teaneck, stated that an unknown black male approached him between 1 and 2 a.m. and—without word or warning—struck him twice in the face with what he described as a folding knife.

The perpetrator then reportedly fled east in the direction of Teaneck.

The motive is unknown at this time.

The victim reached out to a friend, who subsequently drove him to Holy Name Hospital to be medically attended to. The victim sustained a laceration to his chin and his lip and required stitches.

The victim further described his attacker as being under 6 feet tall and wearing a black shirt and pants, but stated to interviewing officers that he did not wish to get anyone in trouble.

No further information was provided by the victim.

This matter is being actively investigated.
