ENGLEWOOD, N.J.—On Feb. 7, 39-year-old Hackensack resident Wayne Hall was appearing in the Englewood Municipal Court for motor vehicle related offenses that included driving while suspended for the sixth time. He was found guilty on that charge and sentenced to 10 days in the Bergen County Jail by Judge Aishaah Rasul.

Upon sentencing, Hall became belligerent and attempted to argue further with the judge. As Englewood Police Officers Sean O’Hara, Carlos Calderin and Jason Mejia, who were assigned to the Court Security detail, attempted to handcuff him, he resisted arrest.

Officer Michael McCue, who was there giving testimony in Hall’s case, assisted the other officers in the struggle, during which Hall attempted to grab O’Hara’s firearm and disarm him. Hall was then tased, brought under control, handcuffed and led from the courtroom.

O’Hara sustained minor injuries to his upper body, but no other officers, court staff or civilians attending the court session on other unrelated matters were injured during the incident.

Hall was charged with second degree attempting to disarm a police officer, third degree aggravated assault of a police officer and third degree resisting arrest. Hall was also arrested on two outstanding criminal offense contempt warrants from the Paterson Municipal Court. Hall was later transported to the Bergen County Jail, where he is awaiting a detention hearing in CJP Court.
