PARK RIDGE, N.J. — James Marolda of Park Ridge has been named the grand prize recipient of Retro Fitness’ national Fit it Forward campaign, earning a free one-year Ultimate Membership.

Marolda, 48, a senior principal geologist and hydrogeologist, was nominated by his friend Hana Froum after a difficult year in which he supported friends through serious illness and loss.

According to Retro Fitness, Marolda stood by one of his best friends during a battle with stomach cancer, helping with appointments, attending treatments and assisting with funeral planning after his friend died earlier this year. He has also continued supporting another close friend who is battling a progressive neurological disease.

“Fit it Forward was created to recognize the people who consistently put others first, and James’ story is a powerful reflection of what this campaign is all about,” said Kim Gouch, chief brand officer of Retro Fitness.

The national campaign invited people to nominate a “Real One” in their lives — someone who consistently shows up for others and deserves support on their own health and fitness journey. Retro Fitness said the campaign generated more than 1,700 submissions from across the country.

“Receiving this recognition through Fit it Forward is incredibly meaningful, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to take a step back and refocus on my own health,” Marolda said. “It’s a reminder that taking care of yourself matters, too.”
