Mayor and council meet May 20; four ordinances up for introduction

WESTWOOD, N.J.— The Westwood Mayor and Council are scheduled to meet on Tuesday, May 20, at Borough Hall, 101 Washington Ave., beginning with a closed session at 6:30 p.m. followed by the public meeting at 7:30.

According to the agenda, the closed session will cover affordable housing, a potential amendment to the borough’s cannabis ordinance, zoning enforcement matters, a personnel issue in the clerk’s office (for which a RICE notice was issued), and a cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) discussion.

The public session will include the swearing-in of Cadet Daniel McDermott Jr. to the Westwood Volunteer Fire Department, approval of minutes from the May 6 meeting, and updates from the borough engineer and various council liaisons.

Four ordinances are scheduled for introduction, including:

  • Amendments to the flood damage prevention code (Chapter 175);
  • Updates to the borough’s filming regulations (Chapter 157);
  • Changes to land use and zoning provisions (Chapter 195); and
  • Revisions to parks and recreation area guidelines (Chapter 243).

No ordinances are scheduled for adoption.

The agenda also includes a consent agenda of resolutions, covering items such as:

  • Authorizing the hiring of summer DPW employees;
  • Approving contracts with Schmidt Surveying, LLC and Vialytics;
  • Authorizing funding for Boswell Engineering to prepare a 2026 NJDOT Municipal Aid application;
  • Leasing a copier under state contract;
  • Redemption of a tax sale certificate; and
  • Tax abatements for 2024 and 2025 (Volz).

The public will have the opportunity to speak during the Agenda/Public Forum portion of the meeting.
