WESTWOOD—The Borough of Westwood invites residents to its Mayor and Council meeting on Tuesday, Dec. 17, at Borough Hall, 101 Washington Ave., Westwood. The public session will begin at 6:30 p.m. instead of the originally advertised 7:30 p.m. The earlier start time is to allow for the presentation of certificates to Westwood’s Dragons Soccer Club championship teams.
After the initial public session, the council will adjourn to a closed session at 7 p.m. The public meeting will then resume at 7:30.
Local Champs
A highlight of the meeting will be the recognition of the Dragons Soccer Club for their outstanding fall 2024 season. The U14 Girls A Flight, U9 F Flight, and U12 Girls C Flight teams each achieved championship titles, with the U14 team going undefeated.
Community Heroes
The council will also issue a proclamation recognizing the Nam Knights of America Motorcycle Club for its 35th anniversary of service to veterans, law enforcement, and the community.
Among the significant matters for discussion:
- Police Department Growth: The swearing-in ceremony for a newly appointed police officer marks another step in enhancing public safety in Westwood.
- Proposed Ordinance Updates: A public hearing will take place on Ordinance 24-37, which seeks to amend Chapter 157 regarding filming regulations in the borough.
- Financial and Personnel Resolutions: Resolutions for consideration include salary adjustments, budget transfers, and approvals for hiring new personnel such as an intern, code enforcement officer, and electrical subcode official.
Resident Participation Encouraged
The council encourages public attendance and participation. The meeting provides a public forum for residents to share feedback on current and proposed initiatives, including the borough’s budget and updates on infrastructure projects.
Residents will also have the opportunity to hear reports from Mayor Ray Arroyo, the council president, and various committee liaisons. These reports offer updates on topics such as finance, public works, health, recreation, and public safety.
