HILLSDALE, N.J.—Hillsdale’s new Community Center at 137 Patterson St. is the focus of a new four-minute video produced by Mayor Michael Sheinfield, offering residents a preview of the recently opened public space.

In the video, part of Sheinfield’s series highlighting borough issues and amenities, the mayor joins Recreation Director Daniel Conte for a tour of the center, which includes meeting rooms, a kitchen, a recreation department satellite office and a flexible layout designed to accommodate multiple programs and meetings.

The center is part of The Piermont at Hillsdale, the 256-unit, four-story luxury apartment complex built at the former industrial redevelopment site. Sheinfield and Conte show residents how to reach the center, including access through the parking deck.

Conte said sound barriers, pictures and rugs soon will be added. A council committee also has been working to “localize” the space with Hillsdale mementos and historic photos.

The community center was provided to the borough as a “community contribution” tied to approvals allowing increased housing density and building height at The Piermont.

Conte said the parking deck includes 72 spaces reserved for visitors to The Piermont that also may be used by community center visitors. The video shows parking areas and an entrance from the garage into the center.

The borough held an official grand opening April 29, attended by former mayors, council members and public officials. See “Proud new hub for Hillsdale: Community Center ribbon cut at redevelopment site,” by Michael Olohan, May 11, 2026, Pascack Press.

“This is a really exciting space. It’s really going to be great for the residents. It’s been a long time coming,” Sheinfield said at the end of the tour.

Residents signed up for borough alerts were emailed the video May 18.
