CRESSKILL, N.J.—Renovations and construction work at the Merritt or Creston Field in Cresskill are just about complete with a grand opening scheduled for next spring, borough officials say.
Some games could be played on the field as early as the middle of next month, Mayor Ben Romeo said Aug. 7.
Romeo said the new field cost “just under $1 million” to complete.
“We did receive between $500,000 and $600,000 in grants from Bergen County Open Space and New Jersey Green Acres [to defray the costs],” the mayor said.
Upgrades to the field that was originally constructed in 1947, include a turf field, state-of-the-art lighting, pitching cage, batting cages, playground, parking lot and a field house.
Romeo said the new field will also offer a “dual use” meaning that it is compliant with
Williamsport Little League specifications and can also be used by the high school girls’ softball team. Night games will also be able to be played, the mayor said.
The field is located at the corner of Piermont and Margie avenues.
