MONTVALE—In a message to residents on Sunday, Mayor Michael Ghassali provided an update on the borough’s paving program, noting delays and road maintenance that will begin this week.
“While we had hoped to complete the paving program before the start of school, coordinating the necessary resources didn’t go as planned,” Ghassali said. “I was notified late last week that we will be doing micropaving on several roads. Micropaving is a maintenance procedure to extend the life of the roads, rather than a full milling and paving project. You will have new and smoother-looking streets once they are done.”
The roads scheduled for micropaving include Maple Avenue, Prospect Avenue, Murray Road, Lewis Road, and Nichols Road. “Work will begin on Tuesday, September 3rd, with all equipment already staged and ready to start around 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday,” the mayor said.
Ghassali also highlighted several important details for residents:
- “Garbage on these streets will be picked up before 7 a.m. on Tuesday.”
- “School buses will pick up and drop off at Grand Ave and Maple Ave.”
- “Police detail will be present to assist you to move in and out of your roads.”
“I apologize for the inconvenience of scheduling this during the first week of school—that was not my preferred timing,” Ghassali said. “However, I ask for your patience as the crew works to complete the paving as quickly as possible.”
The mayor’s message comes as residents prepare for the start of the school year and enjoy the long Labor Day weekend. “Tomorrow’s weather is expected to be one of the best days of the year. Happy Labor Day!” he said.
