EMERSON, N.J.—Before a local property revaluation is conducted, residents will have an opportunity to hear from and ask questions of representatives from Appraisal Systems Inc. of Glen Rock, which will conduct home and property inspections.
Borough Administrator Michael Carelli said July 14 that he hoped to schedule a public information session with representatives from the company.
Carelli said Emerson’s most recent property revaluation was conducted in 2010.
No date for the public information meeting has been set, officials said. The next regular council meeting is Aug. 4.
Carelli said the Bergen County Board of Taxation ordered the revaluation in October 2024, but this was delayed over the time needed to approve and adopt new local tax maps.
Council also adopted Ordinance 1725-26 on July 14, authorizing a “special emergency appropriation” of $445,000 for a revaluation of real property. The ordinance states, “The amount to finance the appropriation shall be provided for in succeeding annual budgets by the inclusion of at least 1/5 of the amount authorized, pursuant to N.J.S.A. 40A:4-55.”

Mayor Danielle DiPaola, citing information from 39th District State Sen. Holly Schepisi and 39th District Assemblyman John Azzariti, urged residents who require electricity to operate life-sustaining medical equipment at home to enroll in the critical care and life assistance programs offered by PSE&G.
She said registering with PSE&G can help ensure that those who critically need electricity for life-sustaining equipment receive priority restoration following a storm. The number is 1-800-436-7734, she said.
DiPaola said a state Motor Vehicle Commission (MVC) mobile unit will visit the Senior Center, 20 Palisade Ave., on Sept. 16 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. for residents’ convenience.
At the mobile MVC office, residents can apply for a REAL ID, renew a registration, obtain an initial permit, receive a non-driver ID, or request a duplicate or replacement title or registration. Tests are not administered at the mobile unit.
Appointments are not required for surrendering license plates; obtaining handicapped, veterans, or Purple Heart placards; or purchasing red CDL decals.

DiPaola said inquiries were made to determine whether e-bike registrations and licenses might be available during the MVC mobile unit visit.
Officials urged residents to check the borough website for updates regarding e-bikes, which became newly regulated as of July 19.
The council also approved a contract for artificial turf at Major Field with Keystone Sports Construction for $374,508.26, or $430,484.73 with improvements.
The Keystone contract, which was awarded to the lowest responsible bidder, was obtained through Bergen County Cooperative Contract No. C-25-022, according to Resolution 26-173.
Other bids for the field and improvements came in at $611,723.84 from Athletic Field of America and $652,216 from FieldTurf.
