DEMAREST — The Demarest Public Library is hosting Moving Through Pages, a month-long exhibition of works by local artist Angeli Gonzalez, on view throughout September
Gonzalez, a self-taught artist and avid reader, said she is honored to bring her work to the library. “As an avid reader and supporter of public libraries, it means so much to me to be here,” she says in an artist statement.
Her creative journey began in childhood, when she first discovered drawing, and expanded over the years to include a variety of art forms. Today, she enjoys crafting for others and with her students, emphasizing the healing and restorative qualities of making art.
The exhibition reflects that philosophy. Gonzalez’s artist statement explains: “Every person, place and thing has a story. Each one of us goes on our own journey filled with joy, sadness, memories and never-ending changes. In this exhibition you will see the moving pages of several stories that speak of the changes that life brings.”
A unique element of the show is Gonzalez’s use of thrifted books as her medium. “Thrifted books were used in the making of these pieces to give them a new life and bring forth a new story,” she says.
The public is invited to view Moving Through Pages at Demarest Free Public Library during regular library hours throughout September.
