HILLSDALE, N.J.––The salaries of the top echelon of the police department head the list of yearly payments to municipal employees in an ordinance that was unanimously passed by the Hillsdale Council at its Aug. 8 meeting.
The vote was 4-0 with Councilmen Frank Pizzella and Scott Karcich absent from the meeting.
The ordinance lists the maximum amount borough employees can receive in 2017 and makes no mention of a minimum payment for any of the positions.
The police chief can receive up to just under $171,000 in salary. The captain’s salary is set at a maximum of $163,385. Currently, there is no lieutenant on the force, but that position is expected to be filled in October with a salary of $153,000.
The mayor’s salary is $9,000 per year with councilmembers being paid $6,000 per year.
Other top salaries are: certified municipal finance officer/purchasing agent, $92,100; borough clerk, $74,000; interim/acting superintendent of public works, $80,000; court administrator, $52,410; and borough administrator, $45,900.
