NORTHVALE, N.J.—On Sept. 10 “The Magic Misfits: The Minor Third” arrives, bringing readers the much awaited third installment of award-winning actor and bestselling author Neil Patrick Harris’ children’s book series.
Harris proves he has more tricks up his sleeve with this third novel, continuing his tale of six friends brought together by their love of practical magic and desire to defend the town of Mineral Wells from villains. He’ll be at Northvale’s Books and Greetings Sept. 10 at 6:30 p.m. signing his new book.
“[This] book teaches about magic tricks, about the ideas behind magic, but also about inclusion, about being powerful within yourself, embracing your differences,” Harris says. “I think everyone feels (especially at that age) like they’re a misfit so I wanted to really be able to honor the differences that people have.”
While the first two books focused on Carter’s and Leila’s point of views, Harris jumps to tell this adventure from Theo’s point of view.
“Theo loves being part of the Magic Misfits. Armed with his trusty violin bow, he completes the team with his levitation skills and unflappable calm,” the book’s publisher describes. “But when a girl named Emily begins to spend time with the group and the other Misfits grow suspicious, Theo is surprisingly drawn to her. She seems to understand the pull he feels between music and magic, family and friends.
“Then a famous ventriloquist arrives in town, and the Misfits are sure he (and his creepy dummy Daniel) are up to no good,” the publisher says. “With their mentor, Mr. Vernon, suddenly called away and tension simmering among the friends, will they be able to come together to stop this newest member of the mysterious Emerald Ring? It’s time for Theo to make a choice about where—and with whom—he belongs.”
Harris is an accomplished actor, producer, director, host, author, husband, and father of magical twins. His memoir, “Choose Your Own Autobiography,” was a New York Times bestseller. The New York Times bestselling Magic Misfits series is his middle grade debut.
