RIVER VALE, N.J.—A new River Vale police officer took the oath of office June 10 at the Township Council meeting and received a warm welcome from residents, family, friends, local officials and fellow officers.
Newly sworn in Police Officer Kevin Illian, of Hillsdale, joined the River Vale department officially on June 10, bringing the current force to 23 officers, including the chief.
Illian graduated June 7 from the Alternate Route Program at Cape May County Police Academy.
He is also a 2017 graduate of State University of New York-Cortlandt with a bachelor of science degree in business economics.
He is a 2013 graduate of Pascack Valley High School.
“We’re very lucky to have you,” said Mayor Glen Jasionowski, welcoming the new officer. “We keep up the pace here, we keep hiring. I feel sorry for whoever is the mayor in 25 years,” kidded Jasionowski before the ceremony.
Illian was congratulated and welcomed by a long line of police officers and also the mayor and Township Council members.
His father, Scott, held the Bible and mother MaryAnn, later pinned on his badge.
“We have a great relationship with a great police department. You officers are truly there to protect and serve our community,” said Council President Mark Bromberg.
Illian’s starting salary is $41,616. He immediately begins field training for three months and then will be assigned to the patrol division.
