OBITUARY: Norma Chimento of Norwood

Norma F. Chimento (nee) Fritz, 96, born and raised in Buffalo, N.Y. and a longtime resident of Norwood, N.J. died peacefully on Monday, Jan. 7, 2019, surrounded by her loving family.

Beloved wife of the late John J. Chimento. Devoted mother of Jack Chimento and his wife Alicia, and Tricia Chimento. Loving grandmother of Jenevieve and husband Lee, Julia, and Jillanne.

Norma began her professional career at Lake Ontario Ordinance Works which produced TNT for the war effort, followed by employment at Curtiss-Wright Corporation in Buffalo, and later enjoyed a 20 year career as a Reservation Manager for American Airlines.

Upon moving to New Jersey, Norma began writing for the Press Journal and The Valley Star. She was a member of the Norwood Bicentennial Committee and was the editor for the Norwood Book of Heritage. She was also the founder of Notables By Norma, a public relations company. Additionally she was managing editor at Fleming H. Revell Publishing in Old Tappan.

Norma was well known for her byline columns, “Knowing Norwood” and “Feminine Focus.”

She was a member of Holy Cross Church in Buffalo, and a parishioner of Immaculate Conception Church in Norwood, as well as a member of the Norwood Senior Citizen Club.

To know Norma was to love her.

Family and friends are invited to visit Friday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Barrett Funeral Home, 148 Dean Drive, Tenafly.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday at Our Lady of Victories, Harrington Park. Interment to follow at Madonna Cemetery, Fort Lee.
