OLD TAPPAN, N.J.—A 25-year veteran of Old Tappan’s Police Department was promoted to lieutenant at the July 15 Borough Council meeting in front of fellow officers, family and friends who celebrated the promotion.
Sgt. Brett Terjanian, who joined the department on Aug. 7, 1995, was promoted to lieutenant, and according to Chief Thomas Shine, Terjanian is “a tremendous asset to the Old Tappan Police Department.”
“Lt. Terjanian is a dedicated Old Tappan Police Department Officer and puts his ‘all’ into everything that he does,” said Shine. “He has been very successful working with the [department’s] traffic division and has been very instrumental as a field training officer—training and educating our new officers when they begin their careers,” said Shine.
Terjanian “exhibits the type of character where he is successful in the majority of tasks he has undertaken,” said Shine, adding the new lieutenant “has taken on a new role in an administrative position within the [department] and is looking forward to his new responsibilities. Congratulations and all the best to [him] moving forward,” said Shine.
Terjanian graduated in 1996 with a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Iona College. He obtained a master’s degree in human resources training and development in 2003 from Seton Hall University.
As a sergeant, Terjanian’s salary was $130,844. As a lieutenant, Terjanian’s salary is $140,208.
