PARK RIDGE — The Park Ridge Fire Prevention Bureau held its annual Peter J. Harkin Babysitters Program on Sept. 30 and Oct. 1.
We’re told approximately 51 area children ages 10 and up took part in the program, which featured speakers from the fire department led by Lt. Brad Moser and Fire Marshal John Hansen.
Guest presenters included Park Ridge Police Chief Joseph Rampolla, Dr. Michelle Mayer of Chestnut Ridge Pediatrics, Erica Brown and members of her team from Northwest Bergen Dispatch, and Carolyn Roche with several members of the Tri-Boro Volunteer Ambulance Corps.
Participants learned babysitting safety through conversations, presentations, and videos, with plenty of time for questions and answers. This year’s attendees also listened to actual 911 calls provided by Northwest Bergen Dispatch to help them better understand what happens when a call is made.
Park Ridge Mayor Keith Misciagna congratulated the attendees and assisted with distributing certification cards to each participant.
The course has been offered each fall for more than 40 years, with many past participants now sending their own children to take part in this legacy clinic.
