Fare Dispute Nearly Escalates to Rock Thrown at Cab

A cabbie from Staten Island and a fare from Ontario got into a dispute at the Park Ridge Marriott in just before 1 a.m. on Jan. 29.

Police were called after the rider reportedly refused to pay his fare, had slammed the medallion taxi’s door several times, and went to get a rock, presumably to throw at the vehicle, police said.

No damage was done to the taxi. The passenger said he would pay the $135 owed, then retrieved his credit card and paid.

No complaint was signed.

Man calls police after realizing  ‘agent’ a scammer

A Mountain Avenue resident reported he was the victim of a scam after he complied with a persistent caller identifying himself as a worker with the Department of Treasury. 

The resident said he was transferred from person to person before ultimately disclosing his driver’s license and Social Security numbers. He hung up when he became too suspicious.

Police advised him to contact his bank and to register into NCIC as an identity theft victim.
