PARK RIDGE, N.J.—This section is based on data provided to Pascack Press weekly by neighborhood police departments. Due to pending court appearances and other variations, the following information shall be read in ‘press time’ context.

Trouble for hauler after brake lights found inoperable

Police stopped the driver of a two-axle trailer on Kinderkamack Road the night of Jan. 5 after noticing that its taillights and brake lights were out.

In investigating, police also documented that a tire on the driver’s side was bald, safety chains were not functional, and the driver’s registration had expired in March 2016.

Police deemed the trailer unsafe for the road and had it impounded. The driver, from Fort Lee, had a court date on Jan. 19 for four summonses, including unsafe vehicle.

Police database gives up the goods on River Vale man

A patrolman’s automated license plate reader returned a hit for suspended registration on a car being driven by a River Vale resident the afternoon of Jan. 9 at Fourth Street and Ridge Avenue.

Police stopped the car, checked the driver’s license, and found that it was suspended for lack of insurance coverage.

Police had the car impounded. The driver, issued summonses, has a Feb. 13 date at Pascack Joint Municipal Court.

Plate check finds suspended license, lack of insurance

A Prospect Park man can tell his story to the judge Feb. 13 after police issued him summonses following a traffic stop Jan. 10.

According to the police report, the defendant turned up in a random plate check having a suspended license. Further checking showed he did not have an insurance card.

The car was impounded. The driver was given four summonses for his lapsed credentials—and a courtesy ride to the bus station.

Identity theft following furniture purchase in N.Y.

A resident, 56, is the victim of identity theft after learning his debit card information was used to purchase a Braun shaver for $226.50 from Walmart, to be shipped to his address.

He told police on Jan. 8 that he had also received “a deluge” of emails from merchants asking him to confirm his accounts.

The man said he believed his banking information was compromised when he made a purchase at a Nanuet, N.Y. furniture store.

He cancelled his credit cards, registered with the Internet Crime Complaint Center, and was going to try to get a refund for the shaver.

Fraudulent store accounts hit local couple

A local couple—the husband is bedridden—have been receiving notices in the mail of accounts being opened in their name. They also received a phone call that showed up as a Park Ridge number seeking money. Police advised them to ignore such calls and to notify their account holders.

Cracked windshield and marijuana odor spark summonses

Police stopped a gray 2000 Chevrolet Astro van on Jan. 7 because the officer saw several cracks on its windshield.

Stopping the van, the officer noted it had temporary plates and smelled the strong odor of raw marijuana emanating from within.

An investigation ensued, and the van driver, 24, a self-employed laborer from New York, was issued summonses for improper safety glass, possession of controlled dangerous substances in a motor vehicle, and possession of marijuana under 50 grams.

He’ll have his day in Pascack Joint Municipal Court on Feb. 13.

Owed $169 on warrant, now has new summonses

A patrol officer on Ridge Avenue on Jan. 5 turned up a hit on a suspended license owing to a $169 traffic warrant out of Washington Township.

The driver, from Mahwah, had his wife meet him at police headquarters with cash bail.

The driver was served summonses for expired registration, suspended driver’s license, and failure to surrender driver’s license.

His day at Pascack Joint Municipal Court is set for Jan. 23. His wife drove him home. He can swing by a secure parking lot at a later date to pick up his car.
