PARK RIDGE — This week, Park Ridge welcomed Michael Wilder as its newest volunteer firefighter. Mayor Keith Misciagna had the honor of administering the oath of office to Wilder, who joins the Park Ridge Fire Department. “We’re excited to have him join our ranks and serve our community,” said Misciagna in a report to residents, expressing gratitude for Wilder’s dedication and the ongoing service of the entire department. Wilder was sworn in at Oct. 8 meeting of the governing body.
In other borough news, the Park Ridge Police Department recognized Robert “Bob” Oppelt for his military and community service (See our story “Bob Oppelt shines as PRPD’s Veteran of the Quarter.”) Born in Bergenfield in 1946, Oppelt began his lifelong commitment to service as a member of the Bergenfield Rescue Squad and later as a Navy gunner’s mate during the Vietnam War. After his military career, Oppelt settled in Park Ridge, where he became a cornerstone of the community, serving as a coach, commissioner, committee member, and councilman. He continues to give back as commander of the Cpl. Jedh C. Barker American Legion Post 153. Oppelt and his wife, Randi, recently celebrated 55 years of marriage, a milestone for the couple who have three children and five grandchildren. “We thank Bob for his service to our nation and our community,” said Misciagna.
Park Ridge Film Initiative Seeks Resident Participation
Park Ridge is on its way to becoming a hub for film and television production with the launch of its Film Initiative. The borough is actively working to achieve Film Ready Certification from the New Jersey Motion Picture and Television Commission. (See our related story via PDF.) Mayor Misciagna shared his enthusiasm for the program, which is designed to attract productions to the area, bringing both cultural vibrancy and economic benefits.
Residents are encouraged to participate by listing their homes as potential filming locations. “If your home has the look or feel that might suit a film or television project, you can upload details and photos to the State’s Film profile,” said Misciagna. More information and instructions can be found on the borough’s location library site.
