PASCACK VALLEY, N.J. — The Pascack Valley community was buzzing with excitement as local teaching and coaching icon Jeff Jasper reached a career milestone 1,000th win at the helm of the varsity girls basketball team on Jan. 11.

The only girls basketball coach in the State of New Jersey to compile such a winning record, Jasper is well-known for his impact on generations of Pascack Valley girls basketball players and students. Only Bob Hurley, the renown boys basketball coach of the now-closed St. Anthony High School in Jersey City has reached the 1,000 win milestone in state high school hoops.

The victory came, fittingly, in the Indians’ home gym in Hillsdale, during a 73-25 victory over Northern Highlands last Thursday afternoon.

At midseason, the excitement surrounding the team is extraordinary. They recently won the Joe Poli Holiday Tournament, an early season test for some of the best local teams, that Pascack Valley annually hosts.

With Jasper’s 1,000th win now in the record books, the undefeated team (10-0) can now look forward to the Bergen County Women Coaches Association girls basketball tournament, which tips off on Jan. 20. State playoffs will follow in February.
