Sinking boaters rescued on the Hudson
–On Aug. 13, a boat occupied by four people struck a rock on the Hudson River, and began taking on water. Before the boat had fully sunk, marine units from Palisades Interstate Parkway Police and Westchester arrived to rescue the occupants, and remove the boat from the water.
CLOSTER
Idling driver found to have marijuana
-On Aug. 8 at 10:23 p.m., Patrolman Ryan Walsh noticed a suspicious vehicle on Mead Drive, parked facing the wrong way with its headlights off. The officer walked up to the blue Subaru, and asked the driver, an 18-year-old from Closter, what he was doing. The driver responded that he was playing basketball and waiting to pick up a friend. When asked where his friend lived he couldn’t give an answer. The officer smelled marijuana coming from the vehicle, and asked if there was anything illegal in the car. The driver, who became extremely nervous and tense, turned over a grinder containing marijuana and a green and blue pipe from underneath his seat. A search of the vehicle yielded no other illegal items. The driver was placed under arrest for possession of less than 50 grams of marijuana, and paraphernalia. He was also issued two motor vehicle summonses. After processing, the young man was released pending a court date.
CRESSKILL
Police searching for bike thief
-On Aug. 16 at 12:01 p.m., a man came to police headquarters to report that a black Trek mountain bike was stolen out of his garage sometime on Aug. 15. Detective John Birnie told the man that a Trek mountain bike was recovered across the street from his house. The recovered bike was not his, but due to the proximity of his house, Birnie believed the cases to be related. A canvass of the area found a worker on the corner of Monroe Avenue and Waverly Place that reported seeing a black male, late teens, riding the white bicycle recovered across the street at about 3 p.m. on Aug. 15. He stated that it appeared there was a problem with the bike, because the male got off and was walking with it. The recovered bike was brought to the Bergen County Sheriff’s Department’s Bureau of Criminal Investigation for fingerprint analysis.

-On Aug. 5, the Demarest Police Department reported that a home burglary and theft occurred on Arthur Court.
HAWORTH
Driver caught with marijuana
– On Aug. 11, at about 3:43 p.m., Officers Andrew Soltes and Christopher Carey pulled over a 19-year-old man from Emmaus, Penn. They arrested him when it was revealed that he was in possession of marijuana and paraphernalia. He was also issued three motor vehicle summonses before being released, and faces a court date for possession-related charges.
Marijuana arrest follows traffic stop
-On Aug. 12 at 9:45 p.m., Sgt. Gianluca Ragone and Officer Kevin McKeary reported conducting a motor vehicle stop on Grant Avenue, Oradell, with a vehicle bearing a New York registration. Investigation revealed the 21-year-old male driver, from New City, N.Y., was in possession of a controlled dangerous substance, namely marijuana, and drug paraphernalia. The actor was placed under arrest and transported to Haworth Police Headquarters for processing. The defendant was subsequently issued a complaint-summons charging him with possession of marijuana (50 grams or less) and possession of drug paraphernalia. The defendant was fingerprinted, photographed and released on his own recognizance. The defendant was also issued two motor vehicle summonses.
Long Island man had about six ounces of marijuana
-On Aug. 16 at 11:58 p.m., Officer Andrew Soltes reported conducting a motor vehicle stop on Madison Avenue with a vehicle bearing a New York registration. Investigation revealed the 25-year-old male driver, from Deer Park, N.Y., was in possession of approximately six ounces of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. The actor was placed under arrest and transported to Haworth Police Headquarters for processing. The male driver was subsequently issued a complaint-summons charging him with possession of marijuana (more than 50 grams of marijuana), possession with intent to distribute marijuana in a quantity of one (1) ounce or more and possession of drug paraphernalia. The defendant was fingerprinted, photographed and released on his own recognizance. The driver was issued five motor vehicle summonses.
Teen had fake ID, drug paraphernalia
-On Aug. 17 at about 3:26 a.m., Officer Andrew Soltes reported conducting a motor vehicle stop on Sunset Avenue with a vehicle bearing a New Jersey registration. Investigation revealed the 18-year-old male driver from Harrington Park was in possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a false government identification. The actor was placed under arrest and transported to Haworth Police Headquarters for processing. The defendant was subsequently issued a complaint summons charging him with possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a false government identification. The defendant was fingerprinted, photographed and released on his own recognizance. The driver was also issued one motor vehicle summons.
