PARK RIDGE, N.J.—Police on patrol south on Kinderkamack Road just before 10 p.m. on Oct. 6 noticed a silver Toyota bearing New Jersey registration with its license plate frame covering the imprinted markings.
He stopped the car on Kinderkamack Road in the vicinity of Prospect Avenue, exited his vehicle, and approached the suspect vehicle on the passenger side. The car was carrying two passengers.
“Once at the passenger side door, I immediately detected the odor of raw marijuana emanating from within the vehicle,” the officer reports.
The defendant’s hand allegedly shook a great deal as she handed over her credentials. The officer called for backup.
During the investigation, the defendant, a local woman, admitted she had contraband in a gym backpack behind the front passenger seat.
The search turned up a greenish vegetation believed to be marijuana concealed in a package of female hygiene products; a purple grinder; and a sapphire colored glass bong wrapped in dryer sheets and bath towels.
The items were seized in the gym bag and secured in the police car. The defendant was handcuffed, searched, and placed under arrest for possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
A passenger took the wheel and followed police to headquarters and stood by to drive the defendant home.
At headquarters the defendant was given summonses for fictitious plates, possession of controlled dangerous substance in a motor vehicle, possession of marijuana under 50 grams, and possession of narcotics paraphernalia, all answerable in the Pascack Joint Municipal Court on Oct. 23.
