TOWNSHIP OF WASHINGTON — The police were called to a Fern Street home on the east side of town early this morning after a report of a stolen vehicle.
Police said the investigation determined the vehicle was taken sometime between about 5 and 5:30 a.m., and that the keys had been left inside.
“Motor vehicle thefts are crimes of opportunity,” the department said in a press release, urging residents not to make it easy for thieves. Police offered the following tips:
- Always remove keys from your vehicle.
- Lock your vehicle every time, even when parked at home.
- Avoid leaving valuables in plain view.
- Park in a well-lit area whenever possible.
- Consider installing or activating vehicle alarms or other anti-theft devices.
Police said the incident remains under investigation and asked anyone with information to contact the department. Residents are encouraged to stay vigilant and take proactive steps to reduce the risk of motor vehicle theft.
