TOWNSHIP OF WASHINGTON—Police are seeking leads in the wake of a motor vehicle accident on Hampshire Road on Tuesday, Nov. 30, that left a landscape worker unconscious and unresponsive.

The Washington Township Police Department said “Any potential witnesses or residents with home security cameras / doorbells would be a great help to our investigation.”

A 37-year-old  West New York man was found unconscious and unresponsive at the scene around 10:30 a.m., said police. The man was identified as an employee of a landscape company whose legally parked truck was struck from behind by a silver Lexus driven by a 76-year-old woman from Ridgewood.

Township Police Capt. John Calamari told the press, “It is unknown at this time how the male victim was injured.” He said the landscape employee was treated at the scene for possible head and spine trauma, and potential internal injuries. He was transported to Hackensack Meridian Health in Hackensack.

Calamari said Township Police Corporal Richard Parsells was investigating the situation with Township Police Sgt. Michael Glock, also a member of the Bergen County Fatal Accident Investigation Unit.

Calamari said the man “was unconscious at the scene and unable to provide any information but officers will be following up when he is able to communicate.”

On Facebook, residents expressed concern that there had been need for  a fatal accident investigation unit truck. One observed that Hampshire is used by some as a shortcut to East Glen from Van Emburgh, and vice versa.
