NORTHVALE, N.J.—Police Capt. Howard Ostrow and Sgt. Rob Pizzi were able to identified an 80-year-old female from Northvale—who was found injured near the CSX Corp. railroad tracks and hospitalized for head trauma—after they located family at about noon on April 8.

Police had responded at 8 a.m. that morning to a report of an injured party on the railroad tracks south of Clinton Avenue, Chief of Police William Essmann told Northern Valley Press.

A medevac helicopter was requested but was grounded due to inclement weather conditions, Essmann said. Englewood Hospital Emergency Medical Service and Advanced Life Support responded to the scene and transported the patient to Hackensack University Medical Center main campus, he said.

The Northvale Police Department and CSX Police Special Agents were coordinating efforts to determine contributing factors to the event. Ostrow didn’t reply for a request to comment on the status of that investigation, at press time.

Police had asked for help identifying the victim, and provided a physical description. She was reportedly in stable condition, Ostrow said.
