EMERSON, N.J.—Three dark-skinned males wearing hoods kicked open the front door of an Emerson residence during a Thursday, Aug. 22 afternoon rain storm, stealing jewelry and cash, Emerson Police Capt. Michael McDermott said.

The crooks ripped a surveillance camera off the front door, but not before it transmitted an image of the suspects, McDermott said.

The homeowners arrived home at 8:45 p.m. and found their front door bashed open and all bedrooms ransacked, McDermott said. He declined to give the home’s address while the investigation is ongoing.

McDermott told Pascack Press that residents should be vigilant during rain storms, as people are easily distracted by the rain and keep their windows closed.

Residents should call police if they see anything suspicious in their neighborhoods, McDermott said.

Police said the victims in this crime are compiling a list of stolen property.
