Primoris Takes Elementary Math Gold

WESTWOOD—The elementary school math team of Primoris Academy became the 2019 New Jersey State School Champion of the MathLeague.org elementary state competition April 24, with local students represented.

Many team members earned invitations to participate in the Mathleague.org’s 2019 Elementary National Competition. A press release from Primoris says they are excited to have the opportunity to compete against mathletes from many other states.

The students from Primoris Academy who will participate in the national competition represent two New Jersey counties and New York City.

Students from Bergen County include Shailen Shah of Hillsdale, Mythreya Dharani of Paramus, Thomas Isernhagen of Waldwick, Sara Juneja of Ridgewood, Ashwin Kalathia of Upper Saddle River, and Michael Pylypovych of Glen Rock. Andrew Brahms lives in Morris Plains. Jed Sloan is from New York City.

Pascack Press wrote about Shah, then 8, in fall 2018 after he took first place nationally in the MathLeague’s third-grade division. His score of 197 was the second highest ever in Mathleague national history for this grade.

The 2019 MathLeague.org Elementary National Competition will take place June 15 at the Texas A&M University campus in College Station, Texas.

Tests, in the morning, will include Number Sense, Target, Sprint and Team Rounds. Participants will have time in the afternoon to sightsee.

The event will conclude that evening with a banquet at which prizes will be awarded to the top 10 students in each grade and to the top five schools in each division.
