WESTWOOD, N.J.—Television news choppers circled in spreading the word of a drowning borough man, 80, being pulled from a swimming pool and rushed to the hospital late on the morning of Tuesday, Sept. 2.
Reports said the victim, Arthur William Stark, died the next day. As news of the incident circulated, several people posted early well wishes, with one recalling the victim as a sweet man and a good neighbor.
According to Police Chief Michael Pontillo, patrols and Advanced Life Support and the Westwood Volunteer Ambulance Corps responded to the roughly 11:12 a.m. emergency call.
Stark was found unresponsive in the pool at the end of a Mountain Avenue cul-de-sac.
Officers administered CPR then turned Stark’s care over to the Westwood Volunteer Ambulance Corps, which whisked him to Hackensack Meridian Health Pascack Valley Medical Center.
Pontillo said “How he came to end up in the pool is currently under investigation.”
The chief declined to name the victim out of respect for the investigation and the family.
