River Vale Memorial Day ceremony Saturday, May 24

RV Memorial Day

RIVER VALE, N.J. — The Township of River Vale invites the community to its annual Memorial Day Ceremony on Saturday, May 24, at 10:30 a.m. at Veterans Memorial Park, 406 Rivervale Road, between Town Hall and the Library.

Observed nationwide as a day to honor the men and women who died while serving in the U.S. military, Memorial Day is marked by ceremonies and visits to cemeteries where American flags and flowers decorate the graves of the fallen. River Vale’s own ceremony is planned each year with care and respect to reflect on those sacrifices.

This year, the Township is honored to welcome Captain David Fillis, Commanding Officer, U.S. Navy, as keynote speaker.

The program, described by organizers as “short but sweet and meaningful,” offers a chance for residents of all ages to come together and remember. A highlight is the 4th Battalion NJ Volunteers, who have participated for decades, appearing in full Revolutionary War attire and firing traditional musket volleys in salute—a powerful and historic tradition. (Attendees should be aware of loud noise during this portion.)

Following the ceremony, the Township will offer coffee and donuts, pinwheels for children (while supplies last), and a special bonus: anyone wearing red, white, and blue can stop by the River Vale 7-Eleven for a free Slurpee on Saturday.
