Traffic stop turns up $500 warrant

An officer on motor patrol the night of June 13 observed a vehicle travelling on Piermont Avenue with a malfunctioning light. The officer conducted a motor vehicle stop on Piermont Avenue South near Holiday Court. A computer check revealed that the driver had an outstanding warrant from Paramus for $500.  

A backup unit arrived to assist, and the defendant, 25, from South Pasadena, California, was placed under arrest.  He was transported to headquarters where he posted the requisite bail.  

He was issued a motor vehicle summons for maintenance of lamps and released pending an appearance in the River Vale Municipal Court on July 2.

Driver, passenger get court dates over infractions

An officer on motor patrol the evening of June 18 observed a vehicle with tinted windows travelling on Rivervale Road. The officer conducted a motor vehicle stop on Rivervale Road near Montview Place.  Upon approaching the vehicle, the officer immediately detected the odor of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle.  

A backup officer arrived to assist. The officers conducted a search of the vehicle and located a bag of marijuana and rolling papers in the passenger seat rear pocket. 

A passenger, 24, took ownership of the contraband and was placed under arrest and transported to headquarters. A computer check at headquarters revealed that he had an outstanding $500  warrant from Haledon. 

He was issued a criminal complaint for possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.  He posted the requisite bail for the warrant and was released on his own recognizance pending an appearance in the River Vale Municipal Court on July 2.

The driver of the vehicle was issued motor vehicle summonses for safety glass requirements, failure to use lighted lamps when required, and controlled dangerous substance in a motor vehicle.  

The summonses were answerable in the River Vale Municipal Court on July 2.

Locked dirt bike disappears like a thief in the night

A Holiday Court resident reported on June 25 that a dirt bike was stolen overnight from his unsecure carport. The bike had been cable-locked to another dirt bike but the lock was defeated and the bike was removed. Police said the matter is under investigation.
