Pearl River man, 22, wipes out in DWI summons
An officer on patrol May 26 at approximately 2:55 a.m. observed a vehicle speeding south on Rivervale Road. As the officer began to follow the vehicle, it turned onto Prospect Avenue. When the officer turned onto prospect Avenue, he observed that the speeding vehicle had jumped the curb and struck a road sign and telephone pole. The driver had exited his vehicle and was accessing the damage.
As the officer approached the man, he immediately detected the odor of an alcoholic beverage on the driver’s breath. The officer also observed an opened bottle of vodka inside the vehicle.
Back-up officers arrived on the scene. The driver, 22, from Pearl River, N.Y., was asked to perform standardized field sobriety tests, which he failed to perform satisfactorily.
He was read his Miranda Rights, placed under arrest, and transported to headquarters. There, he submitted to a Breathalyzer test, which determined that his blood alcohol content (BAC) was over the legal limit.
He was issued motor vehicle summonses for driving while intoxicated, speeding, careless driving, failure to keep right, and open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle.
The man was released to a responsible person pending an appearance in the River Vale Municipal Court on June 11.
Whopping $8,052 warrant; car was unregistered
An officer on patrol May 31 at 9:45 a.m. was conducting random license plate checks when the response from the plate of a passing vehicle indicated that its registration had expired.
The officer conducted a motor vehicle stop on Prospect Avenue. The police report says further computer check revealed that the driver, 49, from Fairfield, had an outstanding warrant from the Passaic County Sheriff’s Department for $8,052.
Backup arrived and the defendant was placed under arrest and taken to headquarters.
Officers from the Passaic County Sheriff’s Department responded and took custody.
He was issued a motor vehicle summons for unregistered vehicle, which is answerable in the River Vale Municipal Court on June 18.
Plate check turns up warrants totaling $2,500
An officer on patrol June 1 at approximately 11:10 a.m. was conducting random license plate checks when a response indicated that the registered owner of a passing vehicle had a suspended driver’s license.
The officer conducted a motor vehicle stop on Orangeburg Road near Blue Hill Road. A further computer check revealed that the driver, 43, from West New York, N.J., had outstanding warrants for $2,500 from Union City and Passaic.
An assisting officer arrived and the suspect was placed under arrest and transported to police headquarters. He posted the requisite bail and was released.
