RIVER VALE POLICE BLOTTER: May 13, 2019

Pascack Press requests neighborhood police reports every week and shares certain items in the interest of public safety. The following are mere allegations. Defendants are innocent until and unless they’re found guilty in court.

Unrestrained passenger gave fake ID

An officer on patrol April 16 at 3:50 p.m. observed that a vehicle travelling on Cedar Lane had a passenger sitting on the floor. The car had an obstructed license plate.

The officer conducted a motor vehicle stop on Hillsdale Avenue. The unrestrained passenger, asked for identification, provided a fraudulent international driver’s license.

A backup officer arrived, and the passenger, 56, from Newark, was placed under arrest. He was transported to police headquarters, processed, and issued a criminal complaint for unsworn falsification to authorities.

He was released pending a May 7 appearance in the River Vale Municipal Court.

Identity theft hits taxpayer in tax returns

A resident reported that upon filing his 2018 tax return with the Internal Revenue Service, he was notified April 18 that an unknown person had used his Social Security number to file a fraudulent tax return. This is under investigation.

Soliciting without a permit is against town ordinance

A resident reported that his entrance camera had captured images of an unknown male ringing his doorbell and pulling on the front door earlier that day, April 26. Officers reviewed the video and located the suspect walking in the area a few blocks away. The investigation revealed that the suspect, 32, was soliciting door to door without a permit.

He was issued a special complaint summons then released at the scene pending a May 21  appearance at the River Vale Municipal Court.

Separately, police warn residents to lock their cars and bring their key fobs inside.
