Nanuet man clocked speeding alleged to have marijuana in car

An officer on patrol the night of Aug. 18 observed a vehicle speeding on Rivervale Road. A radar unit confirmed that the vehicle was travelling 47 miles per hour in a 35 mile per hour zone.  The officer conducted a motor vehicle stop on Wittich Terrace.  

While speaking with the driver, the officer detected the odor of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle. Backup arrived and a search of the suspect’s vehicle was conducted. The officers reported they found two pipes used to smoke marijuana, one plastic bag containing marijuana, and a glass jar containing marijuana.

The driver, 36, from Nanuet, New York was arrested and transported to headquarters. He was processed and issued a criminal complaint for possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was issued a motor vehicle summons for speeding. 

His appearance at the River Vale Municipal Court was Aug. 20.

Westwood man ends up arrested on $150 warrant 

An officer on patrol the night of Aug. 14 observed a vehicle make a right turn on red at the intersection of Rivervale Road and Westwood Avenue. The officer conducted a motor vehicle stop on Brookside Avenue. A computer check revealed that the driver had an outstanding warrant from Newark for $150.

A backup unit arrived and the suspect, 49, from Westwood, was arrested and transported to police headquarters. He posted the requisite bail and was released.

Man arrested on $350 warrant is warned on faulty brake lights

An officer on patrol the evening of Aug. 20 observed a vehicle travelling Rivervale Road with two malfunctioning rear brake lights.  

The officer conducted a motor vehicle stop on Red Oak Drive. A computer check revealed that the driver had an outstanding warrant for $350 from Irvington.

Backup arrived, and the suspect, 34, from Irvington, was arrested and transported to police headquarters. There, he posted the requisite bail, was issued a warning for the bad brake lights, and was released. 

Woodcliff Lake man wakes up to big losses over DWI

An officer on patrol at 5 p.m. on Aug. 25 observed a vehicle stopped in the middle of the road on Westwood Avenue near Peters Place. The officer observed the driver to be asleep in the vehicle. 

A backup officer arrived on scene and the suspect was awakened.  

While speaking to the driver, the officers detected the odor of an alcoholic beverage on his breath.  

The driver was asked to exit the vehicle and perform field sobriety tests. The suspect, 24, from Woodcliff Lake, was unable to perform the tests satisfactorily and was placed under arrest. 

He was read his Miranda Rights and transported to police headquarters.

There, he submitted to a breath test which yielded a blood alcohol content level over the legal limit.  

He was issued summonses for driving while intoxicated, reckless driving, failure to exhibit registration, failure to exhibit insurance card, and parking prohibited. 

He was released to a responsible party pending a required appearance at the River Vale Municipal Court on Sept. 3.
