Alleged speeder had alleged drugs

An officer on patrol Aug. 29 at 2:24 a.m. observed a vehicle on Rivervale Road going 45 MPH in a 35 MPH zone. The officer conducted a motor vehicle stop on Rivervale Road near Haring Farm Court. 

In speaking to the driver, the officer detected the odor of raw marijuana coming from inside the vehicle. A backup officer arrived.

In a consent search, officers located a plastic bag containing marijuana under the defendant’s seat. 

The defendant, 21, from Pomona, New York was read his rights and placed under arrest. He was transported to headquarters and processed. 

He was issued a criminal complaint for possession of marijuana under 50 grams and motor vehicle summonses for speeding, possession of a controlled dangerous substance in a motor vehicle, and failure to exhibit an insurance card.

He was released pending an appearance at the River Vale Municipal Court on Sept. 3.

‘Reckless driver’ reveals heroin folds at stop

An officer on patrol just after 10 a.m. on Aug. 29 observed a vehicle travelling on Rivervale Road in the oncoming lane of traffic.  The officer conducted a motor vehicle stop on Rivervale Road near Montview Place. 

The defendant asked to step out of the vehicle to retrieve his wallet, at which time the officer observed, in plain view, wax folds used to contain heroin in the door pocket.  

A backup officer arrived to assist The defendant, 31, from Emerson, was read his rights and placed under arrest. He was transported to police headquarters and processed. 

There, he was issued a criminal complaint for possession of a controlled dangerous substance and motor vehicle summonses for failure to keep right, reckless driving, careless driving, possession of controlled dangerous substance in a motor vehicle, and failure to exhibit a driver’s license.

He was released pending an appearance at the River Vale Municipal Court on Sept. 3.

Linden man nabbed on $1,051 warrant

An officer on patrol the morning of Sept. 4 observed a vehicle travelling on Rivervale Road with a malfunctioning light.  

The officer conducted a motor vehicle stop on Rivervale Road near Old Tappan Road. A computer check revealed that the driver had outstanding warrants from Linden and Wood Ridge for $1,051. 

The defendant, 23, from Linden, was placed under arrest and transported to police headquarters.  He posted the requisite bail and was released.

Florida man had $750 warrant, suspended license

An officer conducting random plate checks on Sept. 4 at  3 p.m. turned up a hit on an expired registration.

The officer conducted a motor vehicle stop on Maple Street. A further computer check revealed that the driver had an outstanding warrant from Norwood for $750 and that his driver’s license was suspended.

The defendant, 54, from Sarasota, Florida was placed under arrest and transported to police headquarters. 

There, he posted the requisite bail and was issued motor vehicle summonses. He was released pending an appearance at the River Vale Municipal Court on Sept. 17.
