RIVER VALE—All are invited to celebrate the Lunar New Year at River Vale’s inaugural Lunar New Year Celebration on Sunday, March 15, from 3 to 5 p.m. at the River Vale Community Center.
While Lunar New Year—the Year of the Horse—was widely celebrated on Feb. 17, organizer Jessica Scully with the township’s office of Social and Cultural Affairs says the event offers another opportunity for residents across the Pascack Valley and neighboring communities to take part, particularly those who may have missed celebrations in their own towns.
The township’s first official Lunar New Year celebration will honor the Asian American community in River Vale and nearby municipalities.
Planned highlights include a lion dance performance by the Chinese Community Center of New Jersey (CCCNJ), a Taekwondo demonstration organized by the Korean Parent Group at Roberge School, and a cultural display by Mia Wei, president of the Pascack Valley High School Chinese Honor Society.
The celebration will also feature local craft and food vendors, along with family-friendly activities including Chinese horoscope readings, spring paper lantern crafts, and complimentary red envelope fortunes and good luck candies.
Admission is free and open to the public.
