WOODCLIFF LAKE, N.J.—

A 17-year police veteran was promoted to lieutenant in the Woodcliff Lake Police Department in a Borough Council ceremony April 15 at the Tice Senior and Community Center.

Steven Regula had his new badge pinned by wife Amy during the brief ceremony, administered by Mayor Carlos Rendo and Police Chief John Burns.

Joining him at the promotion ceremony were his children, Kevin and Danielle.

Rendo said Regula was the unanimous choice of a police selection committee and the mayor and council praised his selection.

“Steve leads by his actions in what he does as a father, as an officer, as a son, and as a friend to many,” said Police Chief John Burns. “I’ve had the pleasure to work with Steve for many years and he’s second to none in the way he’s carried himself throughout his career,” he added.

Burns said Regula was promoted to sergeant in 2014. He said Regula “has many accomplishments over his career…it’s an honor to work with him and call him friend,” the chief added.

Regula thanked the mayor, council and police selection committee for giving him an opportunity to advance and thanked current and past officers for their support and professionalism.

He said it was an honor to work with his fellow officers.

“Last but not least, my rock, the three sitting in the front row, I just want to take a minute to thank my family, always there no matter what, support, guidance, whatever it is that I may need through this last 19 years, thank you very much,” Regula said.

Regula, a Pascack Valley High School graduate, received his bachelor’s degree from Delaware Valley University in Pennsylvania.
