State Champ Emerson Cavos Get Hometown Parade

EMERSON, N.J.—Emerson joined in parade June 22 for your hometown high school NJSIAA Group 1 baseball champions.

The 2019 “Comeback Cavos,” fresh from their 8-5 win over Glassboro on June 8, reveled at the 10th Annual Summer Kick-Off in a parade that had the team and many of its fans whooping it up from Patrick M. Villano Elementary School to Hillman Field.

Glassboro had entered the fray with a 23–5 season. Emerson took the title backed by a record of 22–7. Emerson trailed Glassboro by five runs entering the final’s seventh inning. Then the Cavos brought the heat, sending home eight runners and taking the win at Veterans Park.

Mayor Danielle DiPaola and the Borough  Council honored the Cavos, as did Assemblywoman Holly Schepisi (R-39).

In her remarks, DiPaola said the champs had “an amazing season of coming from behind, never giving up, and ultimately winning it all.”

It was the team’s second state championship in five years and its  sixth overall. Several championship Cavos teams were represented at the parade.

As it happens, Bergen County went four for four this year, turning out a historic sweep of state baseball titles: Emerson, St. Mary, Pascack Hills, and Ridgewood.

Pascack Hills put it over Point Pleasant Boro for a second consecutive Group 2 baseball title, 2–0, at Hamilton’s Veterans Park on June 8. It was the Panthers’ first state final.
