HILLSDALE—Suzi Gerace of Dream Makers Art Studio & Gallery, 101 West St., invites you to an open house to celebrate the Garden State’s “Upcycling Day,” Sunday, April 16 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Gerace’s event brings live music (courtesy Pete Pizzuti) from 1 to 3, and a day of free workshops for adults and kids.

The New Jersey Legislature passed a joint resolution in March “acknowledging the benefits to the environment of reusing and upcycling plastic and other common materials by designating April 16 of each year as Upcycling Day.”

For those not in the know: Merriam-Webster takes the mercantile view: to recycle (something) in such a way that the resulting product is of a higher value than the original item : to create an object of greater value from (a discarded object of lesser value). We just think upcycling’s fun and chic.

Dream Makers Art Studio & Gallery offers a variety of Gerace’s creations including pottery, one-of-a-kind wearable art and fashion, jewelry, home decor and essential oils. Gerace also offers classes and workshops.
