Kindergarten registration for the 2020-2021 school year will be held in February at the Tenafly Board of Education Office, 500 Tenafly Road.
To be eligible for Kindergarten, your child must be five years old on or before Oct. 15, 2020.

Parents/Guardians must register on their school’s assigned registration day. Registration will be from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. No appointment is necessary for these Kindergarten registration dates only. In the event of a delayed opening or school closing on your designated registration day, Kindergarten registration will be postponed to the snow date.
• Mackay School: Tuesday, Feb. 4. (Snow date: Tuesday, Feb. 11.)
• Maugham School: Wednesday, Feb. 5. (Snow date: Wednesday, Feb. 12.)
• Smith School: Thursday, Feb. 6. (Snow date: Thursday, Feb. 20.)
• Stillman School: Friday, Feb. 7. (Snow date: Friday, Feb. 21.)
“Please make every effort to register in February, as this will enable your child to participate in the Kindergarten Orientation program in the spring,” the district said. “Those parents/guardians who are unable to attend Kindergarten registration on their school’s designated date will have the opportunity to register by appointment only beginning on March 1, 2020, at the Board of Education Office.
“Placement into your neighborhood school is contingent upon space availability. If your zoned school’s Kindergarten class is full to capacity, your child will be placed in one of our other elementary schools. A wait list will be kept as well,” the district said.
The Kindergarten registration packet will be posted on the district’s website, www.tenaflyschools.org, in December, and will also be available for pick up at the Board of Education Office. Parents/Guardians are strongly urged to complete the registration packet ahead of time and bring it and all of the required documents to registration. Placement is secured and registration complete once all required documents are submitted.
Registration is complete upon fulfillment of these requirements
Proof of residency
• An original deed and tax statement, or an original lease if renting, dated and signed, effective during the current school year (September 2020 – June 2021).
• A current utility bill showing the family name and Tenafly address.
• A recent bank statement or unexpired vehicle registration showing name and Tenafly address.
• Identification of Parent/ Guardian
• Parent/Guardian must complete the Certificate of Residency form included in the Registration Packet which will be notarized by the district’s registrar once you have proven your Tenafly residency.
Proof of child’s date of birth
• Child born in the United States: Original birth certificate
• Child born outside the United States: Passport is required (Family Census Register may be required as well.)
Immunization document
This required document should be signed by a physician and must show that the child has received the Following immunizations:
• Four doses of DPT, one dose given on or after 4th birthday or any five doses;
• Three doses of Polio vaccine, one dose given on or after 4th birthday or any four doses;
• One dose of Mumps and Rubella vaccine given on or after 1st birthday;
• Two doses of Measles vaccine given on or after 1st birthday;
• Three doses of Hepatitis B vaccine.
• One dose of Varicella vaccine given on or after 1st birthday or proof of immunity to the chickenpox.
If the NJ State Department of Health requires administration of a Mantoux tuberculin skin test for your child, please submit documentation showing the date and result of the skin test prior to school entry.
Health history and physical exam
This medical form is required prior to school entry. Curriculum
Tenafly’s full-day Kindergarten program is designed to address the social and emotional adjustment of the child as an important aspect of development. The curriculum is comprehensive and challenging, and is based on an understanding of human growth, developmental needs, and learning principles.
