ENGLEWOOD—The Community Chest of Eastern Bergen County has announced that Amie AbuRustum of Tenafly has been appointed president of its Board of Managers. AbuRustum, who served as first vice president, has been an active member of the board since 2016.

“We are thrilled that Amie AbuRustum has taken on the role of President,” said Dr. Shelly Wimpfheimer, executive director of The Community Chest. “Through her experience on the board, the Events Committee, and the Allocations Committee, she has a deep understanding of our mission and programs. We look forward to her leadership and insights in advancing our work.”

AbuRustum has been involved with The Community Chest for over a decade, playing key roles in various initiatives. She co-chaired the Young Women’s Leadership Program, chaired the Allocations Committee, and has been an active volunteer on the Events Committee. In recognition of her contributions, she was honored with the Outstanding Trustee Award at the organization’s 2022 gala.

As a passionate advocate for youth, AbuRustum has helped expand The Community Chest’s Young Women’s Leadership Program. Under her guidance, the program now recognizes both juniors and seniors who demonstrate leadership, and it includes workshops that help high school students prepare for college. This spring, the program will partner with a local nonprofit to provide computers to high school seniors in need.

Beyond her work with The Community Chest, AbuRustum has been active in her community, volunteering in local schools and serving on the board of directors at the J. Spencer Smith School in Tenafly. She holds a bachelor’s degree in sociology from Loyola University Maryland and a master’s in education in speech pathology from the University of Virginia.
