Township man guilty in brutal murder of girlfriend; sentencing Nov. 22

HACKENSACK—Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced the conviction of Patrick J. Camilli, 59, of Washington Township, in connection with the murder of Mary E. Huber on Oct. 23, 2021. After a four-week trial that began this September before Judge James X. Sattely in Bergen County Superior Court, Camilli was found guilty. Sentencing is scheduled for Nov. 22..

On Oct. 24, 2021, at approximately 12:05 a.m., the Washington Township Police Department received a 9-1-1 call reporting an incident at 41 Lexington Court in Washington Township. Responding officers found Camilli lying on top of 51-year-old Huber, with a knife nearby. Huber, who had suffered multiple stab wounds and bruises, was transported to Valley Hospital in Ridgewood, where she was pronounced dead.

Camilli, who had self-inflicted stab wounds, was taken to Hackensack University Medical Center for treatment and was later arrested by detectives from the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Squad and the Washington Township Police Department. An autopsy revealed Huber had sustained at least 29 sharp force injuries and 20 blunt force injuries.

On Oct. 7, a jury convicted Camilli of murder, unlawful possession of a weapon, and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose. He faces 30 years to life in New Jersey State Prison, with a minimum of 30 years before parole eligibility.

The state was represented by Assistant Prosecutors Yomara Castro and Craig Becker, with assistance from Sgt. Anthony Primiano and Det. Jeff Hansen of the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit, and victim advocate Susan Martinez.
