PARK RIDGE, N.J.—A Hawthorne Avenue couple reported on Oct. 11 that a rock had been thrown through one of their home’s windows.
The husband was awakened from a nap on the couch by a loud crash in the other room. He assumed it was the family cat knocking something over.
The wife, watching television in the next room, assumed the same thing. She checked the unit and found a strange rock in a basket. She also noted glass on the ground and a hole in the window.
The couple told officers they did not have any issues with neighbors or other persons in the area.
The husband ventured that the rock had come from the area of the railroad tracks, as there is a broken portion of the fence in the rear of their apartment.
Officers checked, and agreed a person can fit through the opening in the fence. The rocks by the railroad tracks were similar to what was thrown through the window. There was also an opening in the tree line from the railroad tracks, where one could throw a rock and hit the couple’s window.
Officers reported that they believe that youth trespassing along the railroad tracks were responsible for the broken window.
They wrote, “Large amounts of juveniles were still roaming the streets nearby as the football game ended earlier.”
Police took no further action.
