ENGLEWOOD, N.J. –– Two Englewood police officers received promotions to detective at the Oct. 17 council meeting as Police Chief Lawrence Suffern noted the officers “were working above and beyond the normal call of duty” in previous law enforcement assignments.

Officer Stacy Cook, an Englewood police officer since 2006 and Officer Robert Michael Occhiuzzi II, a police officer since 2012, both received promotions in front of friends, family, and dozens of fellow officers who attended the ceremony.

Chief Suffern recognized both officers for prior accomplishments in the criminal investigations unit and juvenile units.

“Both officers during their time there really excelled, showed a lot of hard work and dedication. And through their supervisors, who are here, actually indicated they were working above and beyond the normal call of duty.

“This is just a reflection of how all of our officers perform and hopefully the officers that are here will continue to strive in the same manner that they did so that they can reach and achieve the same goals that Officer Cook and Occhiuzzi did tonight.

“It’s unfortunate that we cannot reward every officer but this is one of things we can do going forward to try and make sure we have the best community and best police department we have,” said Suffern.

Cook became an Englewood police officer in January 2006. He was previously a dispatcher with the Bergen County Police Department and served in the patrol division of Englewood Police Department for eight years.

He served a detail in the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Narcotics Task Force Unit. Cook was assigned to the Youth Services Unit in 2015 as a school resource officer and in 2017, he was assigned to investigations in the Youth Services unit.

Occhiuzzi became an Englewood police officer in 2012 after previously serving as a dispatcher for Englewood since September 2010.
