PARK RIDGE—Mayor Keith Misciagna on Friday wrote to residents to apprise them of upcoming events and opportunities in the community, ranging from safety training for young babysitters to commemorations and volunteer openings.

He announced that the Park Ridge Fire Prevention Bureau is sponsoring its annual Babysitting Clinic this fall at no cost. “Babysitting comes with significant responsibilities, and having this clinic helps these babysitters be better prepared to handle the job safely and responsibly,” Misciagna said.

The clinic, which is open to children in fifth grade and above, aged 10 and older, aims to equip young babysitters with essential skills. Topics will range from playing and feeding tips to basic first aid and fire safety. Experts from the Fire Department, Police Department, Tri-Boro Volunteer Ambulance Corps, and a local pediatrician will lead the sessions, providing comprehensive guidance on safe babysitting practices.

The two-session clinic will be held at the Park Ridge Firehouse on Monday, Sept. 30, and Tuesday, Oct. 1, from 7 to 9 p.m. each night. Attendance at both sessions is mandatory to earn a certification. Misciagna emphasized the importance of early registration due to limited space. To register or learn more, interested residents should email Tammy at smilealways@optonline.net.

Misciagna also highlighted the annual candlelight ceremony organized by the American Legion to honor the lives lost in the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001. The ceremony will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 11, at 6:30 p.m. in Veterans Park and will specifically remember Park Ridge residents Paul Beatini, Joseph Keller, Ron Magnuson, Joseph Maio, Paul Rizza, Scott Vasel, and Martin Wortley.

“Park Ridge will never forget that tragic day, the many lives lost, and the first responders who rushed into danger to save them,” Misciagna said. In the event of rain, the ceremony will move to the Pavilion behind Borough Hall.

The mayor also expressed his enthusiasm for the upcoming Collectible Car Fair for Kids and Teens, hosted by resident Burton Hall of Drivin’ News in partnership with the Hillsdale Free Public Library. Scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 8, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Hillsdale Library, the event will showcase classic cars such as the 1915 Model T, the 1986 Porsche 911, and the DMC DeLorean.

“This event is more than just a display—it’s an educational experience,” said Misciagna. The fair will include interactive elements such as a car judging class and discussions on career opportunities in classic car restoration, offering a hands-on opportunity for kids and teens to learn about automotive history.

In addition to events, Misciagna called attention to several community volunteer opportunities. PKRG-TV is seeking volunteers to help film local sports events such as football, basketball, and volleyball to maintain its robust coverage of Park Ridge High School athletics. “If you have enjoyed seeing your kids’ events or are a Park Ridge athlete alumni yourself, please consider volunteering,” Misciagna said. No prior experience is required, and camera training will be provided. Interested residents can contact pkrg@parkridgeboro.com.

The Tri-Boro Ambulance Corps is also looking for volunteers. Those interested in supporting their community by joining the Tri-Boro Ambulance team can reach out directly at (201) 391-2332. Misciagna noted this as an “excellent opportunity to help your community.”

For younger residents, the Park Ridge Recreation Department is looking for middle school and high school students to help with various recreation events, which is a great way to earn community service hours. Those interested should contact the Recreation Department at (201) 573-1800 ext. 521 or email recreation@parkridgeboro.com.

Misciagna also reminded residents that the Tri-Boro Food Pantry continues to have a need for donations. Donations can be made at the pantry on Tuesdays and Thursdays between 9 and 11 a.m. Alternatively, items can be dropped off at Borough Hall during normal business hours. For special drop-off arrangements, call (201) 573-9083.
