WESTWOOD—To the adage, “Good fences make good neighbors,” we’d suggest an addition: good neighbors build those fences together.
That was the case last week when Veolia NJ and Habitat for Humanity of Bergen County teamed up to update a veteran family’s home in Westwood. Last week, New Jersey employees from Veolia rolled up their sleeves and took part in the heavy lifting for the installation of a new backyard fence at the home.
This project is part of Habitat for Humanity of Bergen County’s mission to provide affordable housing through a rigorous application process that includes homeowners partnering with the organization to build and maintain their homes. This home is designated for a military family, with the dad out on his second deployment to Iraq. His family remains at home, and the new fence is an added security measure to help keep their young children and dog safe.
Veolia employees, along with volunteers from Habitat for Humanity, continue to support the project, which emphasizes community involvement and a commitment to helping local families in need. Karen Roberts, a representative from Veolia, highlighted the importance of giving back to those who have served the country, noting that projects like these strengthen ties between the community and the military families it supports.
