RIVER EDGE — The Bergen County Historical Society will host a George Washington’s Birthday celebration on Sunday, Feb. 22 from 1 to 4:30 p.m. at Historic New Bridge Landing, featuring Revolutionary War demonstrations, live period music and dance, historic cooking, and family activities.
Re-enactors from the 3rd New Jersey Regiment will demonstrate military life during the American Revolution and interact with visitors. Inside the 1752 Steuben House, guests can view Revolutionary War artifacts and selections from the society’s Washington Collection.
Live 18th-century–inspired music, singing, and dance performances by the Tricorne Dance Ensemble (directed by dance mistress Denise Piccino) are scheduled for 1:30 and 3 p.m. Music will be provided by Ridley and Anne Enslow on fiddle and hammered dulcimer. Seating is limited for each performance.
The site’s Jersey Dutch out-kitchen program, themed “What Washington Ate — the War Years,” will focus on military-era foodways while interpreters prepare items including pork roasted over the fire, root vegetable soup, and cider.
Family activities will include a Washington-themed scavenger hunt with prizes and the BCHS QR Code History Challenge, a self-guided smartphone experience with videos and interactive questions. The gift shop will be open, and seasonal refreshments will be available for purchase at the tavern in the Campbell Christie House.
Admission is $12 for adults and $7.50 for children. BCHS members are admitted free. Advance ticket reservations are encouraged. The fun is supported in part by a grant from the NJ Department of State Division of Travel and Tourism
Historic New Bridge Landing is located at 1201 Main St., River Edge. Free parking is available on site, and visitors can also take NJ Transit’s Pascack Valley Line to the New Bridge Landing station. Leashed dogs are welcome on the grounds but not permitted inside the historic buildings.
